Alum’s Bequest Supports Financial Aid for U of D Jesuit Students

By Tom O’Keefe ’64, Director of Planned Giving

Amos Shields

Amos “Bud” Shields ’43 made a gift to U of D Jesuit that will support scholarships for students for years to come.

I spoke with Amos "Bud" Shields many times over the years about his career in advertising at Campbell-Ewald, and his appreciation for The High. U of D Jesuit provided him with the values and work ethic that enabled him to succeed at Michigan State and in the advertising business. In addition to his career, Bud devoted countless hours as a leader in the Boy Scouts. He was very proud of the U of D Jesuit students who earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Bud and his wife, Mary Jane, were married for more than 50 years. After she passed away, Bud moved to Arizona. He continued to follow U of D Jesuit and MSU until he passed away in November 2015.

Bud was always generous in his support of our school. He wanted to help ensure that future generations of Cubs would have access to the same opportunities that he experienced. To accomplish this, he made a substantial bequest which has been added to our endowment. The income from his gift will be used to help fund our financial aid program, which currently benefits more than 300 U of D Jesuit students.
