I have known members of the Rodriguez family since 1962 when Señor Joe Rodriguez began teaching and coaching at The High. He dedicated 30 years to teaching Spanish and so much more to our son and many other Cubs.

His tradition of giving back has been carried on by his son, Dave, who graduated in 1977. Dave provided key leadership when the school created its first marketing guide; further, he and his wife, Eve, have been generous in their financial support. In fact, they are one of the youngest couples to include U of D Jesuit in their estate plan. Dave shares here why they made their gift.

Why Dave Rodriguez '77 Supports The High
One of the great things about U of D Jesuit is the people and their stories you come across along the way. For instance, the young man and his family from Milford who decided that he will attend the school in the city; the young man who decided to attend The High knowing that he would, at times, have to take three buses to get home; and the family who made great sacrifices to have their son attend U of D Jesuit.

We can all relate to meeting fellow students, as well as Jesuits, faculty, coaches and other members of the community, whose stories ultimately enriched our experience—and made us better for it.

In many ways, University of Detroit Jesuit is more than a school. U of D Jesuit is an idea—an idea that has its own sustaining power. It is an idea that brings with it a gravitas not attainable at any other school in the entire area. At least that is my humble and admittedly biased opinion. Good ideas are always worth investing in.

The High has been a big part of our family for many years. It has always been a source of pride; a source for a rejuvenation of faith; a source for friendship, camaraderie and enlightenment; and a quintessential source of inspiration to give back.

We were blessed with two daughters who were fortunate to attend Catholic schools. So while God had other plans for us, we decided to invest in the U of D Jesuit idea through the planned giving program to help sustain the vision that makes the school on South Cambridge so unique.

Eve and I support this school, this idea. We give back to help ensure that U of D Jesuit is here in the future to help keep the experience—and the stories—alive and continuing for years to come.
